Aligning Institutional Policies and Faculty Needs: Supporting Faculty Work in Liberal Arts Colleges

Fri, April 28, 8:15 to 9:45am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

Research about faculty careers has rarely focused on the experiences of those within liberal arts colleges. The sparse scholarship about LACs seldom includes faculty work or perspectives. This paper draws on survey and interview data from faculty members at 13 liberal arts colleges within one consortium to describe the faculty experience in LACs. Specifically, it highlights the challenges of faculty work in LACs and considers what institutions, administrators, and faculty members can do to achieve strong horizontal alignment through the generation of effective policies that support all aspects of faculty experiences.
