Virtual Role-Play Modules: Improving Teacher Candidate Communication Skills to Curtail Bullying

Abstract

Nearly one in three students in the United States today is negatively impacted by bullying. Teachers can play a critical role in stopping bullying-related violence, but most lack the confidence and competence to do so. Virtual roleplay provides a means for teacher candidates to practice their communication skills without risking the well-being of real children. The purpose of this stud is to examine whether teachers candidates who engage in Virtual Roleplay (VRP) modules experience an increase in self-efficacy in their ability to respond effectively to bullying and demonstrate significantly better communication skills.
