This study investigates the emotional, psychological, and and professional fatigue associated with teaching in a persistently low achieving (PLA) school. By understanding this fatigue, leaders can better support teachers and reduce high teacher turnover associated with PLA contexts. We use a multi-site, instrumental case study design to first examine the lived experiences of teachers in PLA schools, then use role theory to gain a theoretical understanding of teachers' conflicts, fatigue, and stress. Finally, we highlight the ways in which veteran teachers alleviate stress, both for themselves and for one another.
