Problem solving is not an instinctive process for most students (Argelagós & Pifarré, 2012), nor is it an instinctive process for teachers (Siegel, 2011). There is little support in professional development for teachers to learn how to support students’ problem solving (Kale & Whitehouse, 2012). Design Thinking (DT) is one way to support problem solving in the classroom. Understanding DT implementation and use in the secondary classroom will allow educators to have the tools to better teach their students to think and problem solve creatively. The purpose of this study is to better understand how secondary teachers approach online professional development focused on DT in order to implement DT in the classroom to support students’ problem solving skills.
