Driven by gaps in the literature surrounding Interactive Communication Technologies (ICT) and classroom interactions, this study investigates differences in teacher-student interaction quality across kindergarten mathematics classrooms that varied with respect to Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) use. Video recordings from 63 classrooms are categorically coded by the roles IWBs take in classroom interaction (Beauchamp & Kennewell, 2008). Interaction quality is rated via the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) K-3 (Pianta, La Paro, & Hamre, 2008). Effects of teacher and IWB usage type on interaction quality are examined with Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM). Results suggest the type of IWB usage associated with highest interaction quality varied by teacher, contrary to expectation.
