An Arts-Integrated Approach to Global Citizenship Education: Analysis of Outcomes and Impact

Abstract

This paper reports on a research study that analyzed the outcomes and impact of an arts-integrated global citizenship education workshop offered to high school students from minority communities in a mid-western state university. The study aimed to understand the types of conflicts these students were concerned about, how they envisioned resolving and transforming these conflicts and finally, what are some of the affordances and challenges of using an arts-integrated approach in such initiatives. This paper describes the methodology, outcomes and impact of the workshop, and argues for the potential of using art as a medium to address culturally sensitive and controversial issues in classrooms.
