Rethinking Education Through Self-Study: An International Doctoral Student's Narrative

Abstract

This narrative examines how an international doctoral student in the United States drew on her own personal education history and made it a starting point to think critically about the landscape of international education. By examining personal and social contexts through self-study, the author narrated her own struggle to unpack how her personal educational experience surfaced her critical thinking about the use of self-study as a way to awaken her to her agency in the field of educational research. In addition, self-study also offered a vista for her to see her limit as one researcher and the value of research community.
