Thu, April 27, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Grand Hyatt San Antonio, Floor: Fourth Floor, Crockett D

Abstract

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for a master’s level blended learning course on program evaluation. Four phases of improving on-line instruction are described, starting with Online Course Materials (OCM) in a Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle, that were reviewed by a team of experts to suggest ways to provide better online learning opportunities. Suggestions lead to the design of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that adopted the cognitive apprenticeship theoretical model (Brown, Collins, & Duguid, 1989). The redesign of the online materials, together with in-class activities conducted by the instructor, led to a significant improvement in students’ learning.
