Abstract

The growing numbers of Students of Color in college campuses across the country challenge the racialized policies and practices within these institutions. However, despite these changes, the experiences of students have not changed much over the years. This study examines experiences of SoC and white students, to present a more nuanced picture of the racialized practices that operate within institutions of higher education and the ways in which these practices connect to the larger patterns of exclusion that people of color face within society. SoC are positioned as outsiders in the academy and as foreigners—“aliens in their own land”.
