Using case study of a teacher at a low-income school where majority of students are non-white recent refugees or immigrants, this research explores the possibilities of her quest for “bringing nature to children” in hopes of addressing equity in environmental education. Using the frameworks of environmental inequality, social justice and white privilege, the study examines the teacher’s approach to address environmental education on a consistent and regular basis by starting a school garden and integrating it in the teaching and learning process. Observations, student and classroom artifacts, garden-based learning, and teacher interview, provide rich data indicative of a pedagogy of possibilities.
