Reframing the Social Contexts of Curriculum Research: Settler Colonialism, Anti-Blackness, and Whitestream Visions of Social Change

Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 210 B

Abstract

I examine recent critical scholarship on race and colonization to argue for the development of theoretical frameworks that engage both settler colonialism and antiblackness as the foundational contexts of curriculum research in modern settler states. In particular, I express interest in how this kind of framework could support research on whitestream projects of social change and desires for anti-oppression. I discuss possibilities for theory to expose the white settler logics of liberal multiculturalism, but further, to seek responsibility to Black and Indigenous activisms that continuously counter antiblackness and settler colonialism.
