Teaching for Digital Equity: Examining Digital Problem Solving in a Public Library

Thu, April 27, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: River Level, Room 6B

Abstract

This paper reports preliminary findings from research conducted in collaboration with an urban public library. The study was designed to learn about the online information gathering and problem solving skills that adults age 16-65 possess to meet their personal, civic, social, and workforce goals. Through a direct assessment of digital problem solving that is compatible with a national and international PIAAC sample, this project builds the capacity for libraries to work with PIAAC data and has broad local, regional, and national impacts to support community initiatives such as STEM workforce development and life-long learning.
