Educational games hold the potential for providing environments to assess the complex science thinking required by new standards for K-12 students in the United States (Pelligrino et al, 2014). This paper presents a design case that describes the process of creating a science inquiry game called Chicken Collision to be used as a formative assessment of middle school students’ science content knowledge and inquiry skills related to balanced and unbalanced forces.
