Liberating the Deweyan Learning Environment

Thu, April 27, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 217 C

Abstract

This paper finds that John Dewey’s philosophy of education, with its holistic vision, leaves room for a broader interpretation of the best learning environment for schooling, one that can and should adapt to balance the needs of the historical period and context. This hermeneutical research of Dewey’s Democracy and Education is a call of action for philosophy to creatively reimagine the school-learning environment.
