Abstract

Community colleges provide a pathway for students to begin their studies at a two-year college and subsequently transfer to a four-year university. The transfer pipeline, as this pathway is referred to, has been recognized as an increasingly important resource, with many universities seeking to increase the number of transfer students they recruit from community college. The transfer pipeline may prove particularly valuable to students with LD, who tend to begin their educations at community colleges at a much greater rate than at four-year universities. This study highlights the perspective of four transfer students with learning disabilities regarding their experiences. Emerging themes are discussed based on an understanding that issues of disability and achievement needs to be contextually and historically based.
