Using Latina/Latino Critical Race Theory, and Chicana Feminist epistemology, this article utilizes the methods of qualitative inquiry for a pilot study involving six Latina college students from the Southwest. The purpose of the study was to understand the role of gender and growing up in the Latino community in shaping the messages they received from families about womanhood and education and how these messages have continued to shape their educational aspirations.
