Designing for Sustainability: Initiation, Development, and Implementation of a Pilot Cultural Competence Program

Fri, April 28, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine through a Critical Appreciative Inquiry (CAI) lens how individuals from the District began the process of designing and piloting a train-the-trainer model of cultural competency training for educators. This single case study focuses specifically on the initial process of creating a program to support a new behavior intervention project. While the study originally concentrated on the development of a program, changes in the personnel associated with the project compelled that the emphasis of the study shift to how sustainability will be specifically addressed throughout the development. Results from this case study will show that the urgency of a personnel change, sustainability and institutionalization are significant parts of the planning process.
