This study aims to investigate Chinese teachers’ perceptions of supervision and how their views fit with the different approaches to supervision (e.g., scientific management versus normative sharing approaches). The author interviewed six elementary school teachers and five university teachers in China. The preliminary results showed that Chinese teachers perceived supervisors as teachers, leaders, and inspectors. The scientific management, human resource, and normative sharing approaches to supervision seem to co-exist in China’s schooling contexts. However, the teachers desired the human resource and normative sharing approaches to supervision in the future.
