The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic and interdisciplinary review of literature to develop a conceptual framework in an emerging area of educational research that lacks cohesive understanding of improving early educational opportunity, access, and equity among citizen children of undocumented parents. Drawing from a comprehensive database of over 800 abstracts, the paper synthesizes current evidence base on the effects of parents’ undocumented status on their children’s learning and development. The presentation then focuses on key barriers and promising practices that empower families, schools, and communities to resist and navigate such challenges. The paper concludes with future directions for educational and social policies in advancing educational equity and expanding early learning opportunities for children in mixed-status homes.
