Delivering Feedback for Diverse Students: Culturally Relevant Feedback

Thu, April 27, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Grand Hyatt San Antonio, Floor: Fourth Floor, Texas Ballroom Salon C

Abstract

Faculty teach students with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, and heritage identities. How can faculty provide culturally relevant (Ladson-Billings, 2009) feedback along these dimensions of difference? How can faculty moderate tone, format, linguistic norms and structures to be responsive to student differences? How can faculty draw upon students’ funds of knowledge in providing feedback? How can faculty orient their feedback in an asset-model, instead of a deficit model?
