Ki Hadjar Dewantara: Curriculum of Indigenous Cultural Traditions of Radical Love and Evolving Peace

Sat, April 29, 8:15 to 10:15am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 214 B

Abstract

This panelist will introduce the educational contributions of Princess Kartina (1879-2004), who (despite only living to age 25) markedly advanced education for girls and women through letters, even when exiled by Dutch colonizers to Holland. She will also present perspective on Ki Hadjar Dewantara (1889-1959), who continued the path of Princess Kartina by developing Among schools from indigenous cultural traditions of love and peace, also from exile in Holland (Wangsalegawa, 2009).
