This panelist will present the development of value-creation educational alternatives to conqueror schooling of militarist Japan of the 1930s and 1940s, value-creation pedagogy being founded by Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944), who died in prison for his ideas and practice. The presenter will relate how Makiguchi’s ideas were furthered by his student, Josei Toda (1900-1958), and continue to be carried to a new level by Daisaku Ikeda (1928- ) through Soka Schools, peace education ventures, and enriching dialogues throughout the world. This presenter will note his own involvement with these schools in Japan and in the U.S. He will note major contributions of these Japanese scholar-practitioners-activists to curriculum of love, peace, and value creation.
