Abstract

The success and prevalence of incidental learning is undeniable. In their seminal 1985 piece Nagy, Herman, and Anderson, showed that incidental learning not only occurs in naturalistic reading, but that the number of exposures to a specific word for learning to occur is lower than expected. They found that people could learn a word with as few as two exposures. The current study examines the innovative possibility of utilizing graphic novels to scaffold incidental vocabulary learning
