The paper aims to explore needed future directions for EEIR, building on the multiple insights from Sam Stringfield’s writing and research.
EEIR has generated a cumulative, quality knowledge base of large size in areas such as educational effects, their causes, the properties of effective institutions and the prospects of school/teacher improvement (Reynolds et al, 2014). However, three areas still need attention:
- More appropriate methodologies
- The need to find school improvement that ‘works’
- The importance of undertaking more soundly based system level research, to complement that on schools and classrooms.
