Session Type: Symposium
In light of national calls to diversify the professoriate, this session will highlight the Grad Prep Academy as an effective program model for graduate school outreach recruitment and preparation.
This session will advance discourse around the need for a more diversified professoriate generally and specifically among Black men. Bringing together a panel of past participants in the Grad Prep Academy, an initiative launched in 2009 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, to prepare talented Black undergraduate men for doctoral study and research-related careers in the field of education. The project is also a longitudinal research study that examines Black men’s trajectories from undergraduate education through graduate degree programs and eventually into their careers.
