Abstract

This symposium reviews recent advances in interdisciplinary research on the design, development, and evaluation of technology-rich learning environments in three areas, namely, the underlying processes in learning and engagement and novel approaches to assessment. Contemporary research in adaptive technologies has led to important advances in leveraging learner data from multiple modalities and modeling latent cognitive, affective, metacognitive, and motivational processes. The aim of this symposium is to review the theoretical, methodological, and analytical underpinnings of research in aligning instruction and assessment within technology and promoting positive affective and authentic learning experiences. The presenters will critically examine each area in terms of how it informs the design of the tools as both a research and training environment.
