Abstract

This session highlights diverse notions and actualizations of liminality in order to think through how researchers and scholar educators might produce critical scholarship, emancipatory moves, even twisted normativities, within research spaces. Questions like the following are addressed: How might diverse theoretical frameworks and methodological practices assist scholars to productively resist reductionist and overly simplifying practices of neoliberal, patriarchal educational discourse(s)? How does liminality function as a fold for critical qualitative inquiry? We draw examples from investigations into the abject bodies/practices of childhood, purposeful constructions of teacher/child entanglements in liminal spaces, researcher role in facilitating liminal engagements, methodological performances of twisted normativity, and the Transparent series as practice of public pedagogy.
