Session Type: Symposium
In this Symposium, we present a comprehensive description of a fully arts-integrated approach to early childhood education (ECE) -- Art As A Way Of Learning® (AWL) -- that we have worked on since the mid-1990s. In four Papers our team will report data and findings on (1) the contexts and opportunities for implementation and evaluation of AWL; (2) three different quasi-experimental program evaluations examining AWL’s impact on young children; (3) a series of qualitative projects examining the transformations in ECE classroom teachers during AWL; and (4) the evolution of AWL’s original theoretical framework to its current iteration, ArtsIN. A distinguished contributor in arts, education and research will provide his feedback, criticisms, and questions as Discussant.
