Session Type: Symposium
This session brings together five ethnically/racially diverse scholars of color in U.S. colleges/schools of education with varied experience as administrators ranging from department chairs, deans, and a university president. We will engage in critical discussion about the need for redefining leadership, scholarship, and success in the academy. Topics include the following: (a) diverse pathways into leadership roles, and (b) unique barriers and opportunities that scholars of color confront when they transition to leadership, as well as strategies for career advancement. This session will also include time for audience engagement and a collective plan for action as we consider ways to drive cross-institutional change in the recruitment, retention, and support of scholars of color into various leadership positions.
