44.083 - Introduction to Posthuman Literacies

Sat, April 29, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 221 C

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Posthumanism draws attention to the shortcomings of humanist theories that have grounded almost all of educational philosophy and research. This session, designed to be an introduction to posthumanist literacies, brings together fifteen educational researchers from three countries, all actively drawing from scholarship that speaks to the posthuman turn.

We will: 1) introduce work that is being done in posthuman literacy research across the world; 2) raise questions and pose provisional answers about issues such as the relations between the human and nonhuman, relationality, and the changing methods/genres of posthuman literacy research; and 3) provide ample time for all participants to be taken up by whatever potentialities arise as we engage with the posters, diffractors, and audience members.
