Session Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium brings together educators from across early childhood education disrupting the increasing concentration on young children’s academic preparation and testing and longitudinal databases that track children and teachers’ performance as well as university programs driven by standardized teacher preparation assessments. These educators are shifting their research emphasis towards compassion for human conditions and societal ailments, connection, joy and learning, wonder and disequilibrium, love and heart-ache, beauty and compassion, nourishment and relationships and all of the issues around learning to live day-by-day and moment-by-moment in life. This knowledge is pursuing actions in the field, furthering the rethinking of education refocusing on equity and opportunity, linking directly with the 2017 AERA theme.
