Session Type: Symposium
Three presentations highlight findings from three NSF-funded projects that apply technology-based learning in informal STEM education experiences. Projects include student participants in grades 4 - 12 who represent populations traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields (e.g., females and minority groups). Presentations and subsequent discussion will address the use of novel technology-based learning environments, including the incorporation of wearable technology, eye-tracking devices for web development, and a gameful learning management system, to address positive outcomes in student learning, motivation, and retention in informal STEM experiences. In line with the 2017 AERA Meeting theme, emphasis will be placed on best practices and research that effectively broadens participation in STEM fields among underrepresented youth.
