Abstract

This symposium explores the recursive and reciprocal nature of teaching, learning, doing and RE-learning teacher research. Each presentation draws on two paired texts that discuss prominent features of teacher research and how these features are taught, understood and implemented. Working synergistically, four sets of university-based instructors and P-12 teachers explore these theory-instruction-practice relationships through collaborative inquiry into three dimensions:
• identifying methods particular to teacher-generated research
• applying those methods to classroom contexts
and
• critical analysis of catalytic elements of teacher research.
The four studies highlight developing an inquiry stance for science teachers through “unstructured thought-partner spaces”, theory-practice dialectic for social studies teachers, equity & leadership, and visual concepts of data analysis and representation in language arts.
