44.064 - Fostering Networks and Collectives in the Out-of-School Sector: Achieving Equity, Innovation, and Learning Ecosystems Through Large-Scale Collaborations

Sat, April 29, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 221 D

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Out-of-school (OST) organizations have never operated in isolation from other institutional actors, but historically this reality has been by default rather than by design. In recent years, however, there is an increased tendency towards designed organizational networks operating in the OST space. As this occurs, better theorizing the forms, purposes, tensions and principles at play within these designed networks is essential to ensure OST organizations’ effectively utilize, and understand the limits of, such structures. This session explores dynamics within a number of increasingly prominent forms of designed networks OST organizations participate in including collective impact models, open innovation networks, designed learning ecologies, networked improvement communities and cross-sector research practice partnerships.
