Session Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium brings together work from four research teams examining the ways that practice-based models of teacher education can better prepare literacy teachers to implement ambitious instruction. A key imperative of practice-based teacher education is to balance pedagogies of investigation and enactment. Currently, pedagogies of investigations are the focus of many training programs, resulting in a disconnect between methods learning and implementation in classrooms
Enactment provides a means of filling this gap by allowing “approximations of practice” within a structured environment. More knowledge is needed, however, about how pedagogies of enactment (rehearsals) hone key instructional practices and equity-centered dispositions to support students’ learning, especially in subjects other than math. This workshop reports on projects designed to fill that knowledge gap.
