Session Type: Workshop
Even though the use of massive online open courses (MOOCs) in education has increased, there is extensive evidence in the literature about lack of effectiveness in the design of many of them. Furthermore, lack of resources and knowledge do not allow certain countries and populations to benefit from the advantages of MOOCs. When effectively designed and implemented, MOOCs can be a powerful asset in instruction, as well as a mechanism to make education more accessible to anyone. This workshop explores effective strategies and principles in the design of MOOCs, such as quality assurance, social presence, and evaluation. In addition, this session will offer strategies to overcome the challenge of lack of resources and professional development when designing and developing MOOCs.
