Session Type: Symposium
This session presents four papers using results from the 2015 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) Advanced grade 12 assessments in mathematics and physics. Data from both the international and U.S. national TIMSS reports are used to evaluate U.S. performance in an international context. A separate diagnostic report in the U.S. provides more in-depth data about performance across mathematics and physics topics as well as areas of strength and weakness for different demographic groups. Research studies comparing TIMSS Advanced with other mathematics and physics assessments in the U.S.―the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations and the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)―provide further insight into educational opportunity and college/career readiness in mathematics and physics.
