Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will examine family engagement to support student learning and positive environments in neighborhood schools. Representatives from four Promise Neighborhoods (PNs) in California, Minnesota, and Mississippi will present interim findings from on-going assessments of family engagement efforts. PN sites share a common results-based accountability system, as well as locally-developed frameworks for continuous organizational improvement, to assess progress against goals. Each presentation will situate family engagement approaches in the context of how they measure progress toward those goals. The presentations will also address the PN theory of change that equity goals for youth are best conceived and addressed at the neighborhood level by youth-sector agencies, non-profits, families, and schools, working in concert and within a shared accountability policy frame.
