This symposium examines issues and perspectives related to the critical analysis of Latino/a children’s literature from varying perspectives, theoretical lenses, and educational sub-disciplines. It includes key findings from studies that examine (a) representations of Latinas/os in children’s books; (b) Latina mothers' engagement of Latino/a literature; and (c) Latino/a students' responses to branded/commoditized literature. The symposium culminates with an in depth discussion about the intersections between critical theory, pedagogy, and content analysis and Latinos/as’ experiences with literature in the classroom and in out-of-school settings.
