Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will broaden and provoke conversation about technology use for equitable student learning through teacher preparation and professional development innovations that leverage learning technologies. The papers in this symposium: describe redesigned teacher preparation courses that introduce preservice teachers to participatory culture practices, and that advance preservice teachers’ technological pedagogical knowledge of digital tool use; utilize design-based research to address preservice teachers’ identity development as technology-empowered and social justice-oriented educators; and report upon a university and school district partnership that encourages educators’ use of learning technologies for culturally responsive education. To model innovative technology use, the symposium will feature a Twitter backchannel (#techquity) and web annotation of full papers so participants can contribute commentary prior to and after the symposium.
