Abstract

Schools are expected to become increasingly ‘research-engaged’ to improve their education. Research and evaluation can be used to promote teacher professional development, essential for the quality of teaching and hence student learning and achievement. Research shows that ‘The highest performing education systems are those that combine equity with quality.’ In fact, equity and quality are two sides of the same coin. In this session, therefore, we present studies from four different countries focused on different types of research in schools in the context of promoting the quality of education, whereas at the same time promoting equal educational opportunity.
