32.027 - New Directions. Public Scholarship Through Community Engagement: A Landscape for Educational Equity, Opportunity, and Access

Abstract

This session highlights scholars whose innovative work emphasizes engaged public scholarship. From homeschooling within today’s socio-political contexts, to empowering out-of-school interventions, and the critical use of hip-hop culture within urban communities, their scholarship bridges the research and civic communities. Further, it epitomizes the value in situating scholarship within the context of youth’s lived experience and emphasizes the importance of creating spaces for youth to realize the depth of their potential. This panel will showcase how equitable educational outcomes can become possibilities when opportunities and access are made available through community engagement.
