58.017 - Division L Fireside Chat. From Research to Practice: Partnering With Practitioners to Produce Research That Informs Policy

Sun, April 30, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 217 D

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Education scholars have documented the weak link between research and practice in schools/districts and the policy realm. Research-practice partnerships are an increasingly prominent approach to conducting research that directly influences both policy and practice. Research-practice partnerships are not new, but have received increasing attention in recent years. In 2013, the IES began funding researcher-practitioner partnerships, with the goal of supporting research "that has direct implications for improving programs, processes, practices, or policies that will result in improved student education outcomes." This session brings together scholars and practitioners involved in research-practice partnerships to discuss how this model effectively produces research that informs policy and practice, what lessons from these partnerships can inform graduate students' approaches to their research
