Session Summary

Opportunity and Equity Inside Classrooms: Teacher-Child Relationships and Educational Success

Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, 304 A&B

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

This session aims to integrate findings across areas dealing with teaching within classrooms experiencing both increased diversity and a wide range of social and emotional issues in the classroom. Teacherchild relationships are one of the inherent features of school classrooms and present a primary arena for improving access to social and academic support for children from diverse cultural, social, ability backgrounds and socio-emotional experiences. Improving these supports and relationships may be one of the more sustainable avenues for increasing educational opportunity. Participants will leave with an understanding of the diverse range of research that addresses the role of teacherchild relationships and a broadbased discussion that helps integrate some of the findings across areas.
