44.017 - The Production and Dissemination of Educational Knowledge in Latin America and the Role of Educational Research Journals

Sat, April 29, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Room 305

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

The production and dissemination of knowledge in education in Latin America has increased significantly in recent years, due to the growth in the number of people dedicated to do research, the increase in the size and number of institutes, centers and research units, as well as in the financial resources of public agencies and international organizations. However, the dissemination of the results and the contributions of educational research in Latin America are still limited due to factors such as: 1) the lack of a sufficient number of journals with digital format in order to become part of the international circuits of dissemination of knowledge; and 2) the difficulties to incorporate more journals specialized in educational research into the international bibliometric indices. In this symposium different dimensions of this problem will be examined and discussed.
