58.016 - Quality, Inequality, and Social Justice

Abstract

The objective of the session will be to discuss the complex relationship that exists between educational quality, inequality and social justice in the context of American societies. During the 20th Century, advances were made in the distribution of education, with the resulting effects in educational distribution and social justice in most of the countries of the Region, which can be attributed to, among other factors, the effect of developing their educational systems. However, despite these efforts, the current situation reveals that inequality has remained one of the most prominent structural traits in our countries. The session seeks to present a diagnosis of the problem, review a representative case and analyze a proposal to improve the quality of education in the Region.
