Abstract

In this paper, we focus on UNSDG target 4.7 and its call for education for sustainable development and global citizenship. Both fields are subject to critical scholarship raising concerns around reproduction of colonial systems of power through schools in the Global North studying global issues. In this paper, we draw on critical scholarship in the areas of Environment and Sustainably Education and Critical GCE to suggest a framework that could be adapted for pedagogical and methodological purposes. We draw on findings from a study with Swedish teachers engaging with global issues in their classrooms to apply and assess the framework in order to raise implications for further research in this area and for resourcing for teacher development in this area.
