Professional Development in Online Programs: Exploring Training That Supports Student Engagement

Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fourth Floor, Wilder

Abstract

In this qualitative case study the researcher draws on interviews with 13 faculty in an online doctoral program to find out which professional development activities helped faculty foster students’ sense of community. Findings indicate that semi-formal communities of practice were most beneficial in teaching faculty how to support online student engagement.
