Despite a recent increase, the number of women superintendents has remained remarkably low since the 1800s (AASA, 2015; Shakeshaft, 1999). Using feminist poststructural discourse analysis, this qualitative case study explores racialized and gendered discourses depicting women superintendents in Boston from 1990-2016. The findings of this study can be used to reconceptualize educational leadership and community relations in the 21st century.
