Previous research has painted a dim picture of queer experiences in physical education (PE). It has been documented that queer persons have been harassed, felt uncomfortable, or were ‘at-risk’ in PE settings. Given these findings, researchers have theorized queer bodies as ‘abject’ or outside the borders of PE. This paper critically contests this claim. Drawing on data from a critical ethnography, it is proffered that queer desire is not repressed or outside the borders of PE, but rather homoeroticism is being actively produced within the field. This claim serves as a theoretical and empirical departure from previous research because I claim queer desire and PE are coextensive and not dichotomous.
